FAQ¶
Beamscan does not appear in the effect list
- Check that you copied the plugin to the correct folder:
Plug-inson Mac, orSupport Files\Plug-inson Windows. - Restart After Effects after copying the plugin.
- Look under Effect > CubeZeero > Beamscan.
Which versions of After Effects are supported?
Beamscan has been tested with After Effects 2026. See the system requirements for supported environments. It supports 8/16/32bpc and Multi-Frame Rendering.
No lines appear, or there are too many lines
- In Vector Signal, adjust Contour Level. Threshold has no effect in Luminance mode.
- In Pixel Walk, adjust Threshold. Low-contrast footage may not produce clear edges.
- Try Scan Source = Luminance for white line art or Alpha Outline for a logo on a transparent background.
- If live-action footage produces many tiny, noisy strokes, increase Min Stroke Length and Smoothing.
How can I change the drawing order?
Pixel Walk automatically chooses the stroke closest to the current endpoint next. Vector Signal aligns contour starting points, directions and spatial ordering. Use Trace Start to control the starting position and Trace Reverse to reverse the direction.
The drawing order jumps between video frames
Try Trace Engine = Vector Signal. For black-and-white footage, start with Contour Level = 50%, Min Stroke Length = 8px and Persistence = 0%. Drawing order can still change when contours merge, split or become occluded. See Trace for more details.
The audio waveform does not appear
- Check that Audio Layer points to a layer with audio, or that the layer receiving the effect has audio in its own source.
- Audio is read from the layer's source item. For a precomp, audio inside the precomp is used.
Some parameters are grayed out
The mode that uses those parameters is not selected. For example, Wave parameters are available only when Scan Source = Audio Waveform.
